The challenge

The renewable energy transition is bringing large workforces and large-scale investment to regional and rural communities. While this presents substantial economic opportunities, it also places pressure on existing housing markets and community facilities. Community members, local councils, renewable energy developers and local businesses are looking for ways to address this challenge, mitigate negative impacts and increase the social value of the renewable energy transition.

Our solution

One Engage worked with RE-Alliance to interview the teams leading the way in innovative housing solutions across regional Australia. Drawing on over a decade of experience in housing policy and community benefit plans, One Engage produced a series of case studies and ’how to’ documents to support and inspire other stakeholders confronting similar challenges.

The outcome

The outcome was a published RE-Alliance report outlining key findings and recommendations. It is already shaping new housing strategies and initiatives across Australia, with more than 100 people attending the report launch online.
